Rainbow Six Siege November Major
Only a handful of gaming companies have reached pop culture-icon status. Ubisoft is one of those companies. You’ve likely heard of their blockbuster franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Just Dance, and Rayman. As part of their Tom Clancy series, Rainbow Six Siege has become one of the world’s most popular eSports titles. The tactical team-based shooter is the star of November Major, an online competition featuring eSports teams worldwide.
Usually, Ubisoft holds November Major at a venue. But due to Covid-19, they executed the event remotely. Our challenge was to craft a visual identity that would live online, in broadcast, and on digital platforms.
We had to step up our game from August Major. So, we created something that is a lot like the mind of a pro-gamer. Our new glass-themed visuals capture the chaotic energy of Combat/First Person Shooter games. The flying shards place the viewer in the middle of the action, as though they are present the moment after an explosion. This realm, where time has frozen, is where gamers must make quick decisions — only fractions of a second dictate who triumphs or trips up. This bullet-time shattered glass adds further immersion into the full story, which we then molded into the trailer and the broadcast experience. Players’ photos, team shields, and gameplay of past events appear as reflections on the glass. Like a screen within a screen, the shards mirror Rainbow Six’s universe within a nanosecond. The player must siege the moment.
